From Childhood Experimentation to Professional Innovation

For many people, a career in technology begins in a classroom or through formal training. For Jason Carson, however, the journey started much earlier—long before professional titles or corporate structures entered the picture.

At just ten years old, Carson received his first computer as a Christmas gift. Like most kids, his initial excitement revolved around playing video games. But unlike most, he quickly became curious about what was happening behind the screen.

One of his earliest experiments involved modifying a video game so that instead of displaying the original developer’s name, it proudly read: “Created by Jason Carson.”

It may have been a playful childhood tweak, but that small moment revealed something important: Carson wasn’t just interested in using technology—he wanted to understand it, shape it, and make it his own.

That curiosity became the foundation of a lifelong passion.

Learning Lessons Beyond the Classroom

Interestingly, Carson’s early school years did not immediately predict the academic success that would follow.

He describes himself as a highly energetic student who often found creative ways to distract himself—and sometimes his classmates. Paper airplanes, spitballs, and chalkboard mischief were regular occurrences, earning him the label of a “behavioral problem” in school.

Yet one simple piece of advice from a guidance counselor left a lasting impact.

“There are consequences to your actions.”

It was a straightforward message, but it stuck with him. Carson redirected his energy into his studies and soon began to excel academically.

He graduated high school with honours and earned the prestigious Ontario Scholar Award. His hard work ultimately led to acceptance at one of Canada’s most respected universities—the University of Toronto—where he pursued studies in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

The combination of technical education and natural curiosity would later become a powerful advantage in his career.

The Unexpected Start of a Business

Many entrepreneurs carefully plan their first venture. Carson’s first step into professional IT services happened in a much more spontaneous way.

One day, his mother visited a local HVAC company to purchase furnace filters. While she was there, the owner’s wife was struggling with a computer issue at the front desk. In a joking tone, she asked Carson’s mother if she knew anything about computers.

His mother replied simply: “No—but my son does.”

Soon after, Carson received a call asking if he could come help solve the problem. He went over, fixed the issue, and demonstrated the technical confidence that would soon become his trademark.

The company offered him $50 an hour to handle their IT needs.

What seemed like a small one-time job quickly turned into something much bigger. Word spread, more businesses asked for help, and Carson began freelancing as an independent IT professional.

Over a decade later, he still manages the IT systems for that very same HVAC company—a testament to the long-term relationships he builds with his clients.

Building Carsonx Inc.

As Carson’s client list grew, so did the demand for his expertise.

He first formalized his work as a sole proprietorship and later operated as a franchisee for a larger technology company. These early business experiences helped him understand how managed IT services could scale across multiple industries.

Eventually, Carson decided to take full control of his vision by founding his own company: Carsonx Inc.

Today, Carsonx Inc. specializes in delivering what Carson describes as “white-glove customized managed IT services” to small and medium-sized businesses.

Rather than offering generic solutions, Carson focuses on tailoring systems and support specifically to each client’s needs.

For many businesses, outsourcing IT is far more efficient than hiring a full-time in-house technician. Carson effectively becomes their entire IT department—handling everything from network infrastructure to cybersecurity.

Supporting Businesses Across Multiple Industries

Carson’s work spans a remarkably diverse range of industries.

His current clients include:

Medical clinics

Film production companies

Interior design firms

Mortgage agencies

Law firms

Retail businesses

HVAC companies

And many others

Each business presents its own unique technical challenges.

Carson manages everything from networking infrastructure and Wi-Fi systems to VoIP communication platforms, cloud services, cybersecurity solutions, and data backup systems. He works with both Windows and Apple environments, ensuring that businesses remain secure, efficient, and technologically up to date.

In today’s digital world, even small technical disruptions can cost businesses significant time and money. Carson’s role is to ensure those disruptions never happen—or are solved immediately when they do.

Work That Still Feels Like Play

Despite running a professional technology company, Carson often describes his work in surprisingly simple terms.

“It’s work, but it’s also play,” he says.

The reason is simple: the work he does today is essentially the same type of problem-solving he enjoyed as a hobby growing up.

What began as curiosity has evolved into a career where every day presents a new puzzle to solve.

Every business operates differently, meaning every client represents a new project. For Carson, that constant variety keeps the work interesting and intellectually rewarding.

A Personal Milestone Worth Celebrating

This year brings an extra reason to celebrate.

The publication of this article happens to coincide with Carson’s birthday on March 8th—a date that many people around the world recognize as International Women’s Day.

Carson laughs about the coincidence.

“It’s always funny telling people my birthday falls on International Women’s Day,” he jokes.

While the day itself carries global significance, Carson is simply happy to celebrate another year doing what he enjoys most—helping businesses succeed through technology.

Defining Success

For Carson, success is not defined purely by revenue or business expansion.

Instead, he measures success by staying passionate about his work and continually improving his craft.

His philosophy is simple:

Follow your passion

Do your best

Learn from mistakes

Never give up

He often reflects on a quote attributed to Socrates:

“Falling down is not a failure. Failure comes when you stay where you have fallen.”

That mindset has guided him throughout his career and continues to shape the way he approaches challenges today.

Advice for Future Entrepreneurs

For those just beginning their professional journey—especially in technology—Carson offers a few key insights.

First, curiosity is powerful. Many of the best careers begin simply by exploring something that genuinely interests you.

Second, responsibility matters. The lesson he learned in school about consequences shaped his personal discipline and helped him reach his academic and professional goals.

Finally, persistence is essential. Technology evolves quickly, and success often comes to those who keep learning and adapting.

Looking Ahead

As technology continues to transform industries, the role of reliable IT infrastructure becomes more critical every year.

Carson remains committed to helping businesses navigate that ever-changing landscape.

Through Carsonx Inc., he plans to continue expanding his services, strengthening client relationships, and delivering the high-level customized support that has become the hallmark of his company.

And while the tools and technologies may evolve, one thing remains unchanged: the curiosity that first drove a ten-year-old boy to rewrite the credits in a video game.

That same curiosity still powers Jason Carson’s work today.
